Bircher Muesli…
EASY and NUTRITIOUS, you can make this breakfasts in 5 minutes!
Bircher Muesli is a traditional Swiss recipe created over a 100 yrs. ago by Maximillian Bircher-Benner, a Swiss doctor, who served it to his patients as a part of a healing therapy. The fact that it is soaked overnight helps to improve the digestion and absorption of the nutrient-dense ingredients.
SERVINGS: 10 x 100g servings
You’ll need…
2 cups organic wholemeal (wheat-free) oats
1 tablespoon of cinnamon powder
2 tablespoons organic chia seeds (black, white or mix)
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
1/4 cup flaked or slivered almonds
1 can coconut milk (400ml), Coconut water or homemade nut, seed or oat milk.
1½ cups filtered water
Let’s get started…
Put all the DRY ingredients into a large glass dish/bowl (that has a lid).
Mix well with a spoon
Pour on the coconut or nut milk and water. Mix well
Put in fridge. It’s ready to eat the next day.
Keep in fridge, lasts 7-10 days.
Variations are KEY for a healthy Microbiome (gut)…
ZESTY – Zest orange and add to dry mix. Use sliced orange to top when serving.
OAT FREE – Replace with organic flaked quinoa, however it won’t have the same texture or taste.
CINNAMON – Add cinnamon powder to dry ingredients.
COCONUT FREE – Replace coconut water with plain filtered water or organic kefir.
MACADAMIA – Replace almonds with raw unsalted macadamia nuts.
CHAI – Add a pinch each of cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom powder to dry ingredients.
BERRY – Top with fresh blueberries, raspberries or strawberries when serving.
YOGHURT – Top with organic yoghurt or kefir when serving.
